While shopping at a thrift store one of the children came across this menorah
and wanted to buy it. Since we do not have a menorah I thought this would be a
wonderful addition. I immediately thought about all the wonderful things that
we could use this for, math games, dramatic play, holiday discussions, and so
much more. The price was right and I said, "Add it to the cart!" After some
discussion at home later, it was decided that this needed candles. Making the
candles became a wonderful activity in itself. The children and I went and
purchased dowels. They had to find a dowel that fit the hole then count how
many candles we needed. Then they measured to make sure we would have enough
dowel. When we got home the kids used a ruler to mark where to cut the dowel
and then used a saw to cut the pieces. To gaurd against splinters, they sanded
the candle pieces. The new candles work great!
